On Thursday 19 November, investors who follow the Shell share or the Europcar share learned of the signing of a strategic partnership between the two companies. Indeed, the subsidiary Europcar Mobility Group has announced the creation of a strategic alliance with NewMotion, a subsidiary of the Anglo-Dutch oil giant Royal Dutch Shell, with the aim of recharging its electric vehicles throughout Europe.
Thanks to this partnership, the group specialising in vehicle hire will be able to benefit from NewMotion's ecosystem, which ranges from electric recharging stations to IT services that enable the use of the latter to be controlled. This is in any case what the press release published by the two companies reveals and explains.
In addition, and still within the framework of this strategic partnership, it should be noted that customers who rent an electric vehicle from the company Europcar, but also Goldcar, InterRent or Ubeeqo, will receive a recharge card that will give them access to one of the 170,000 recharge points that the NewMotion company currently displays, in more than 35 different countries.
The two groups also said that the partnership will be progressive. Indeed, it should be rolled out gradually, starting on 1 January 2021.
In announcing this strategic partnership, Olivier Baldassari, Europcar's Director of Countries and Operations, underlined the fact that the Group's commitment to repositioning Europcar in environmentally friendly vehicles is a key element of its strategy.significantly reduce carbon emissions implied an increase in the share of green vehicles in its fleet as well as support for the brand's customers in their use of electric vehicles. He adds that vehicle rental represents an excellent vector for the promotion and development of electric vehicles, particularly in urban areas.
On the other hand, it should also be remembered that the Europcar group is currently seeking to reposition its offer around digital uses by offering its customers and prospects services that are both simpler and more flexible. This includes redesigned branch networks, a new digital platform and a 100% connected fleet to which customers can have direct access. Among the figures mentioned by the lease, it should be noted that the latter plans to own and operate more than 30% of hybrid and electric vehicles in its fleet before the year 2023.
This new partnership set up by Europcar will therefore enable it to follow the course of action set out by this restructuring and to achieve its objectives more easily, not to mention that it will help to improve its brand image.
